About Balbedie Aeromodelling Club
The Club has now been going for around seven years and the site has been inproved over that time. A new portacabin and lawnmower were obtained last year courtesy of a coalfield regeneration grant which supports local ex miners many of whom are club members. The site has a large flying open flying area and a short mown grass runway some 100m long so all but the largest of models can take off and land safely. A huge veriety of models regularly use the facilities every day that the scottish wether will allow and even when flying is impossible you will often fing a group of our members huddled around the fire in the portacabin plotting their next sortie
The Club is very proactive and runs a number of events each year in its effort to promote model flying. Events held on the Club site are free to enter and all modellers and interested parties are always welcome. The club tries wherever posible to support local charities. For more on these events see the events section of this website.
Flying Days
The site is available for model flying 365 days a year during daylight hours and many of our member make use of this flexiability so no matter when you arive you are almost sure to meet other members
The open vista in front of the runway is second to none with great safe open spaces to fly your model. Restrictions are few and other than keeping away from the farm and cottage to the left hand side and ensuring that you proceed through the farm at a slow pace for safety then there is little else to cause any problems. Safety is ofcourse paramount when flying and the club safety rules regarding take off and flying area must be observed as per any flying site. Balbedie has an enviable safety record and this is no doubt due to the safe startup tables which ensure the engines ca be started without concern of models moving forward or breaking free
